Custom plugins play a vital role in developing cross-platform apps with Apache Cordova/PhoneGap. These Cordova/PhoneGap plugins are able to extend the functionality of the PhoneGap core framework by offering features like social network integration, push-notifications support, ad-network support and much more.
Until now, finding a suitable Cordova/PhoneGap plugin was not an easy task as one had to rely on search engines and trying out multiple plugins to find out which one actually works.
Now Telerik has launched a marketplace (repository) for Cordova/PhoneGap Plugins with an assurance to list plugins that have been thoroughly tested, documented, and extended to empower cross-platform hybrid mobile developers. Don’t get confused by the word marketplace as this plugin marketplace is completely free to access (without any registration) and all the listed plugins are available for free download.
Not only this, Telerik is working on to resolve existing issues with the plugin code, fully documenting the functionality with easy to follow code samples, and in some cases even extending the plugin to new platforms – fulfilling the promise of true cross-platform development. This is great news for any one looking to build cross-platform Cordova/PhoneGap apps.
The Cordova/PhoneGap plugins list is sortable by platform which includes Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8. On the download page of the plugin, you will find the options to download the zip archive of the plugin source. If you are Cordova CLI or AppBuilder CLI user, you will also find commands to install the plugin from GitHub repository. One can also try the plugin in Telerik’s AppBuilder, which allows building of cross-platform apps using Telerik services and platform.
As of writing this article, Telerik has 15 plugins listed in the marketplace and is accepting suggestions for adding new plugins.
